Mets Hot Stove: Cespedes

For the second time this winter, until I saw him, I totally forgot the Mets signed reliever Antonio Bastardo.

He was unceremoniously inked to a two-year deal in late January, shortly after which reports hit that the Nationals might sign Yoenis Cespedes, which obviously took over the news cycle. Thankfully, Cespedes ended up singing with the Mets.

In the conference call to announce Cespedes, Sandy Alderson had to remind everyone on the phone that he signed Bastardo the week before, which he felt had been glossed over by fans and media.

Then it happened again earlier this week, when I saw Bastardo jog out to the mound to throw live batting practice.
