Mets’ Dominic Smith won’t be coming back anytime soon

CHICAGO — The Mets won’t be counting on Dominic Smith to contribute for at least another month.

Smith, according to general manager Brodie Van Wagenen, will remain in a walking boot for another three weeks — removed from baseball activities — after incurring a stress reaction in his left foot last weekend.

After the walking boot is removed Smith will have to build up into baseball shape, meaning in a best-case scenario he would be available in early September.

“It’s going to be a little bit longer than we expected,” manager Mickey Callaway said before the Mets beat the White Sox, 4-2, on Wednesday.
