Mets’ Dillon Gee back from DL, ushering in the 6-man rotation

SAN DIEGO — Dillon Gee is ready for action, officially ushering in the Mets’ six-man rotation.

After going nearly a month without a major league start, Gee will return from the disabled list Wednesday to face the Padres at Petco Park. It will leave the Mets with six starters in an expanded rotation designed to get extra rest for Matt Harvey, Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard.

Gee was placed on the DL with a right groin strain on May 5, allowing the Mets to recall Syndergaard from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Without a six-man rotation, manager Terry Collins said Harvey, deGrom and Syndergaard could be facing shutdowns for three-to-four starts apiece at some point in the season.
