Mets Designate Robinson Cano For Assignment

Proving once again money is no object for these New York Mets, the team designated Robinson Cano for assignment Monday to get the roster down to 26 players.

Unless another team is as dumb as the old Mets and decides to claim him off waivers, the Mets are still on the hook for $20 million this season and next (the Mariners are paying about $4 million per season).

Cano is worthless without PEDs, hitting a paltry .195 this season. There was talk of demoting Dominic Smith or J.D. Davis and keeping Cano around, but that would have been ridiculous.
