The Mets have designated outfielder and pinch runner Billy Hamilton for assignment and called up right-handed pitcher Erasmo Ramirez to take his place on both the active and 40-man rosters. Hamilton made a major baserunning mistake in yesterday’s roller coaster Mets win when he was thrown out trying to steal third with nobody out and the Mets trailing by a run in the ninth inning.
That mistake wasn’t Hamilton’s first on the bases, and considering his speed and lack of hitting prowess, it makes sense that the Mets chose to part ways with him following the gaffe.
