The Mets might skip Steven Matz‘ next start due to discomfort in his left elbow, manager Terry Collins said on Monday.
Matz is dealing with a bone spur in the elbow but does not have any structural damage. He has already seen a doctor for the issue and has been prescribed anti-inflammatory medication.
He was in line to start on Wednesday against the Nationals and will be replaced by Logan Verrett or Sean Gilmartin if he’s unable to pitch.
Matz told Collins his elbow was tight and that he was uncomfortable toward the end of his recent start against the Braves, when he allowed five runs.
