Mets' Carlos Carrasco breaks pinkie in weightlifting mishap

WASHINGTON -- New York Mets right-hander Carlos Carrasco broke his right pinkie finger in a weightlifting accident and will miss the rest of the season, manager Buck Showalter said Tuesday.

Carrasco, 36, was lifting weights before Sunday's game against Seattle when he set down a 50-pound dumbbell and it flipped over, landing on his pinkie, Showalter said before New York played at Washington.

He had surgery the same day to set the bone and a follow-up procedure on Tuesday to insert a pin.

"He's going to be fine to pitch again next year," Showalter said.
