Mets call up Austin Warren, DFA Rico Garcia

Prior to today’s series finale against the Giants, the Mets called up right-handed reliever Austin Warren. To make room on the roster, the Mets designated right-handed reliever Rico Garcia for assignment.

Joel Sherman first reported last night that the Mets had intended to DFA Garcia and noted that this move was strictly to add a fresh arm into the pen, adding that it was unlikely the team would start the clock on a top prospect like Nolan McLean for such relief work. Warren, whom the team picked up on waivers from San Francisco in the offseason, has made five appearances for the Mets, pitching 5 13 innings of one run ball while striking out four and walking three.
