Mets’ Brodie Van Wagenen: Nearly nothing off limits this offseason

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Other than adding another offense-first player, the Mets seem open to just about anything this offseason.

“I think we would like to have strong starting pitching,” general manager Brodie Van Wagenen said Monday at the GM meetings. “We would like to improve our bullpen performance and we would like to improve our defense and if there were opportunities to improve around the diamond, particularly in center field defensively, we would like to do that.”

It’s something of a contrast to last offseason, when Van Wagenen felt comfortable with the starting rotation but sought bats to bolster an underwhelming lineup.
