Mets bringing back Chili Davis as hitting coach

Chili Davis is staying with the Mets.

Despite interest from the rival Phillies, the Mets have brought Davis back as the team’s hitting coach, according to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman. The Post previously reported that Davis, who was seeking a multi-year deal to remain with the Mets, was close to a return.

Joe Girardi, who landed with the Phillies as their new manager after being passed over for Carlos Beltran, wanted to bring Davis down the turnpike.

With Davis as the hitting coach, Pete Alonso won NL Rookie of the Year and set a new rookie record with 53 home runs.
