Mets botch apology to 1969 players they thought were dead

The Mets apologized to Jim Gosger and Jesse Hudson of the 1969 Mets, both of whom were included in a video montage of deceased players a day earlier during a 50th anniversary celebration of that World Series winning team.

Both are still living.

Before Sunday’s 8-5 win over the Braves, a message ran on the scoreboard expressing regret for the error. But Hudson’s first name was misspelled as “Jessie” in the apology.

“We have spoken with both former players to express our sincerest apologies,” the statement read.
