Mets appear to be in final stage of hiring GM

NEW YORK -- The Mets' general manager interview process, for all intents and purposes, is complete. The team conducted call-back interviews this week with its three finalists: Brodie Van Wagenen, Doug Melvin and Chaim Bloom. Barring the entrance of an 11th-hour candidate into the process, the Mets have nothing left to do but deliberate and make a choice.

The final candidate to meet with the Mets, Bloom, elected not to meet with the media "out of respect for his current role" as senior vice president of baseball operations with the Rays. Instead, he released a brief statement that read: "We had a productive meeting [Wednesday].
