With a very long flight to England on the post-game docket, the Mets waited out an unwelcome rain delay in Washington and took out any frustrations on the Nationals pitching staff, exploding for a six run sixth inning en route to a 9-1 victory over the Nats. The victory gave the Mets only their second series sweep of the season, and their first road series sweep since July of 2023.
Recently acquired Luis Torrens—perhaps with a roster spot on the line with Francisco Alvarez—was the offensive star with a pair of solo home runs—one in the top of the third to put the Mets on the board, and a second leading off the big sixth inning to extend the lead to 3-0.
