Mejia says MLB conspiracy, not positive test, resulted in permanent suspension

Jenrry Mejia, who received a permanent suspension on Feb. 12 for his third positive test for steroids, told Ben Berkon of the New York Times that Major League Baseball led a "conspiracy" against him (Mar. 4).

He claims he was told by MLB that if he appealed his second suspension, the league would find a way to give him a third positive result.

"I felt there was a conspiracy against me, Mejia said. "I feel that they were trying to find something to bring me down in my career."

Baseball officials told Berkon they had made no such threats against Mejia, who claimed the MLB Players' Union didn't do enough on his behalf.
