HOUSTON – Manager Terry Collins was hoping to see “that nice easy motion” from Matt Harvey, who was making his first start for the Mets since June 14, shortly before he was shut down and placed on the disabled list for a stress injury to the scapula bone in his right shoulder.
What he saw was discouraging, to put it mildly.
Harvey lasted only two innings, the shortest outing of his career, during which the Astros rocked him for eight hits and seven earned runs. In the Astros 12-8 victory in Game 1 of the day-night-doubleheader, Houston’s first sporting event since Hurricane Harvey, the Mets were down 4-0 in the first inning.
