Matt Harvey and Rafael Montero turn Mets slide into a disaster

Sports

PHOENIX — This must be the opposite of seventh heaven.

A dreadful Mets road trip went full-throttle disaster Wednesday afternoon as Chris Herrmann was clearing the fence in deep center field against Rafael Montero in the 11th inning. Operation Desert Mourn was complete with the Mets’ seventh straight loss, 5-4 to the Diamondbacks at Chase Field.

Matt Harvey pitched into the sixth inning, but was sloppy on a day the Mets received a respectable bullpen performance before Montero’s ill-fated pitch. Offensively, the Mets stopped scoring after the fourth inning.
