Mark Vientos exited today’s game against the Cardinals with groin discomfort. The Mets have not elaborated on the severity of the injury, or whether the move was purely precautionary. Brett Baty replaced Vientos at third base to start the fifth inning.
The injury likely occurred when Vientos made an acrobatic leaping grab at third base to rob Brendan Donovan of a hit to lead off the fourth inning. He was not involved in either of the next two plays in the fourth, and did not hit in the bottom of the frame.
