There was a chance, a big chance, for the Mets to blow open Sunday night’s Game 5 of the World Series in the sixth inning.
With a dominant Matt Harvey on the mound, the Mets were riding Curtis Granderson’s first-inning leadoff homer to what they hoped would be a return trip to Kansas City.
The sixth inning started so positively against Royals starter Edinson Volquez. Granderson walked. And then David Wright singled, and when Daniel Murphy sent a bouncer toward first, hopes rose and the bases became loaded when Gold Glover Eric Hosmer misplayed the ball.
Bases loaded.
