Losing David Wright is a bummer, sure, but the Mets will be fine

It’s a blow to the spirit, but how much to the flesh?

It’s a hit to the Mets’ offense. To the defense? Not so much.

Once again, the Mets will learn how they can cope without their captain.

The Mets plan to announce Friday that David Wright will miss an extended period of time on the disabled list due to a herniated disk in his neck. It hardly ranks as a shock, given the concerns Wright and Terry Collins have voiced this past week. Yet Wright, who last played May 27, spent this past week working to avoid the disabled list, so the failure of that missions still stings.
