Joe Girardi steps down from Team USA in possible managerial sign

Joe Girardi appears confident he will receive one of the seven remaining managing jobs.

The former Yankee skipper stepped down Wednesday as manager with USA Baseball for the upcoming World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Premier12 tournament, an early qualifying event for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, according to a release.

Girardi, who has been serving as an analyst for MLB Network, has been mentioned as a candidate for the managerial openings with the Mets, Cubs and Phillies.

Girardi was replaced as manager of the national team by former Yankees teammate Scott Brosius, with former Mets manager Willie Randolph taking over as bench coach.
