Jacob deGrom puts Mets’ fears to rest in dominant performance

The only thing hyperextended on Jacob deGrom was his middle finger, figuratively speaking, as he dared the Diamondbacks to touch his pitches Friday night.

Any concerns about the hyperextended right elbow that had placed deGrom on the disabled list, and his subsequent 45-pitch first inning against the Phillies last Sunday that forced his removal, dissipated early against the NL West leaders.

In a rebound performance that let everyone connected with the Mets exhale, deGrom fired a seven-inning gem in a 3-1 victory at Citi Field.

The right-hander’s career-best scoreless streak concluded at 24 ¹/u2083 innings in the sixth, but the rest of deGrom’s night was a breeze.
