The Internet Baseball Writers Association of America (IBWAA) on Tuesday elected Derek Jeter to the Hall of Fame. He was the only candidate to receive the required 75%. That other writers group announces its results later in the day.
Jeter received 95% of the vote — 152 out of 160 ballots. I don’t know what those eight people were thinking. Larry Walker, in his last year on the ballot, got 71% while Curt Schilling received 62%. Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens were not on the ballot because we elected them several years ago.
I voted for Jeter, Schilling, Billy Wagner, Gary Sheffield and Sammy Sosa.
