The Mets can only hope that Mike Rizzo is one stubborn GM, apparently determined to prove he wasn’t wrong about hiring Matt Williams, no matter how much of a disaster the Nationals are these days.
But if Rizzo isn’t at least thinking about changing managers as a form of shock therapy for his dead-team-walking ballclub, he may be putting his own job at risk come the offseason.
So never mind hope; what the Mets should fear is Rizzo reaching into his past and bringing in an instant-energy manager whose style might jolt the Nationals to life for the final six weeks of the season.
