The Mets have placed catcher Francisco Alvarez on the 15-day injured list with a left thumb sprain, the team announced today. Alvarez sustained the injury running the bases in the second inning of last night’s game. He stumbled running between first and second base and put his left hand down to stop himself from falling and his thumb bent awkwardly as his hand hit the ground. After sliding into second base safely, Alvarez came up cradling the hand in obvious pain. He stayed in the game, eventually coming around to score, but was then removed from the game with Omar Narváez taking his place behind the plate in the bottom of the inning.
