Final Score: Mets 7, Cubs 4 - Lockett drops it

Walter Lockett’s Mets debut did not go according to plan in a 7-4 loss. Lockett started strong, retiring the first six batters he faced, but recorded only one out in the third while giving up six runs. Brooks Pounders and Wilmer Font contributed 3.2 scoreless innings in relief before Robert Gsellman gave up a solo home run in the seventh, but their efforts were for naught as the Met offense couldn’t close the gap.

Offensively, the early game was a story of missed opportunities, with double plays in both the first and second short-circuiting big scoring chances.
