Final Score: Mets 5, Nationals 3 — Someone had to win

It was ugly, it was exciting, it was infuriating, it was a Mets win. Today’s 5-3 victory over the Washington Nationals was the Mets’ first win since last Sunday, so thankfully they stopped shy of a full winless week.

To win a game where the opponent scores three runs requires the 2021 Mets offense to do their version of “showing up” and as far as I’m concerned, five runs counts as showing up. Kevin Pillar jumped into second place on the team in home runs with a pair in the third and fifth, while Michael Conforto’s first ever pinch-hit home run was the difference maker, bringing home three more runs in the seventh.
