The Mets avoided elimination tonight by trumping the Nationals by a score of 3-1. The star of the show was David Peterson, who got the nod for the Mets and looked about as good as he has since his call-up, tossing seven innings of one-run ball while striking out four. Being that this was Peterson’s last start of the season, he ends his year with an ERA of 3.44.
Robinson Chirinos, of all people, provided the biggest blow with a two-run homer in the fifth inning to put the Mets up 2-1.
