In a game marked by ineptitude at the plate, the Mets escaped with a win in a bizarre game. Matt Harvey pitched very well for the third straight outing, and the lone run he gave up was courtesy of ex-teammate Kirk Nieuwenhuis, who tripled in the bottom of the fifth and scored on a sacrifice fly.
Yoenis Cespedes hit his 16th home run of the year to tie the game at one in the top of the sixth. The Mets had some golden opportunities to score other runs, none better than bases loaded with no outs in the ninth, but they failed to push a run across through ten innings.
