Final Score: Marlins 5, Mets 3—Fourth time’s not the charm

The Mets returned to Citi Field for one day in the hopes of steering their season back on course after three brutal losses against the Yankees. With Jacob deGrom on the mound in a day game against a frustrated Marlins team that had to travel up for one game before returning home, New York had to feel good about its chances.

Instead, one bad inning derailed Sunshine Superman as the Mets fell 5-3 to fall to five games under .500 as their ship continues to sink. The Mets built a 2-0 lead in the third thanks to a Jeff McNeil double and a Dominic Smith sacrifice fly.
