It was a quintessential 2018 Jacob deGrom start in every sense of the phrase. deGrom was brilliant over seven scoreless innings, striking out ten Giants. But the Mets couldn’t get him any run support, managing just three hits off Tyler Beede, who tossed eight scoreless innings for the Giants.
After that, it was a battle of two overworked bullpens, as the game went to extra innings for the second straight night. Luis Avilan and Will Smith each pitched a scoreless inning in the eighth and ninth, respectively.
