The Mets were unable to complete a sweep of the Cubs, losing the final game of this four-game set at Citi Field 2-0. Marcus Stroman was great for the Mets, striking out eight Cubs over seven solid innings of work. But Kyle Hendricks was even better, shutting out the Mets for six innings and giving up just two hits.
The Mets’ best chance against Hendricks came in the fourth when he surrendered back-to-back walks to Pete Alonso and Dominic Smith to lead off the inning. However, James McCann grounded into a double play and Hendricks retired Billy McKinny on a dribbler back to the mound to escape the jam.
