Ex-Met Adeiny Hechavarria stays in NL East with rival Braves

Adeiny Hechavarria has a new home, and it’s with a rival.

The veteran infielder, who was released by the Mets last week following the signing of Joe Panik, was signed Friday by the Braves.

Hechavarria was cut one day before a scheduled $1 million roster bonus was set to go into effect. He hit .204/.252/.359 in 142 at-bats with the Mets.

The 30-year-old Hechavarria figures to help Atlanta fill in for injured shortstop Dansby Swanson. The Braves hold a 5 1/2-game lead over the Nationals in the NL East heading into Friday’s games.
