Dominic Smith scratched from lineup after being late for team meeting

Mets 1B Dominic Smith was scratched from Friday's lineup due to being late for a team meeting.

Smith was originally in the lineup, at first base and hitting fourth (as Mickey Callaway announced Thursday). He was then replaced by 1B Peter Alonso.

"I'm more upset I let myself down," Smith said. "I was so excited to be in the lineup and be playing. ... I'm kind of more disappointed in myself and with myself, than anything else."

The 22-year-old Smith is still aiming to win the first base job, but the expectation is that he will begin the year with Triple-A Las Vegas, while Adrian Gonzalez is the starting first baseman for the Mets.
