deGrom masterful as Mets take series opener from Padres

Behind a brilliant pitching performance by Jacob deGrom and a big home run by Asdrubal Cabrera, the Mets took the series opener from the Padres, 5-1, on Friday night in San Diego.

Things you should know about today's game...

1) deGrom earned the win after allowing five hits over 7 1/3 scoreless innings. The lanky right-hander walked three and struck out eight. The performance lowered his season ERA to 2.06, and his career ERA against the Padres to 1.53.

2) Offensively, Todd Frazier got the Mets on the board with an RBI single in the first inning before Cabrera launched a three-run homer in the seventh to give deGrom some breathing room.
