Cuddyer’s knee could be phenom Conforto’s path to Mets

WASHINGTON — Michael Cuddyer is down to his last potential remedy that doesn’t involve rest.

The Mets outfielder began taking a new anti-inflammatory drug Monday in hopes the swelling in his left knee would subside enough to keep him on the roster, but Cuddyer was also facing the very real possibility of a disabled-list stint.

As the Mets began a three-game series against the first-place Nationals, Cuddyer was on the bench and available to pinch hit, but had no indication if his knee was improving.

For now, the Mets just have Cuddyer as an expensive pinch-hitting option.
