NEW YORK -- Coming off the worst season of his career, Michael Cuddyer plans to retire halfway through his two-year, $21 million contract, a source said Friday. A Mets spokesman declined comment on Cuddyer's situation.
Cuddyer, 36, hit .259 with 10 home runs and a .699 OPS in 117 games this past season, going 1-for-11 with seven strikeouts in the postseason. He spent time on the disabled list due to knee discomfort and underwent surgery after the season to repair a core muscle injury.
