Conforto to play in simulated game on Monday

Mets OF Michael Conforto will bat against Jason Vargas in a simulated game on Monday and it's "possible" he could return on Thursday, manager Mickey Callaway said after Sunday's game.

The Mets announced earlier on Sunday that Conforto was heading to New York.

Conforto, who is eligible to return from the disabled list on April 5, appeared in two Grapefruit League games and also played in minor league games this spring as he progressed in his recovery from a dislocated shoulder injury.

He went 1-for-6 with two walks and a two strikeouts in Grapefruit League action and hit two home runs in a minor league scrimmage.
