Chase Utley appeal on fast track

Major League Baseball will try to expedite the appeals process on Chase Utley’s two-game suspension so it can be heard before Monday night’s Game 3 of the NLDS between the Dodgers and the Mets, according to a baseball source.

John McHale Jr., a special assistant to the commissioner, would hear the appeal in New York, the source said, and it’s likely there would be others from the commissioner’s office involved. Utley would get representation in the appeal from the MLB Players Association.

Joe Torre, MLB’s chief baseball officer, is the one who slapped the ban on Utley.
