Cespedes debuts, but Duda the star as Mets beat Nats, 3-2

METS 3, NATIONALS 2

The Mets billed the night as Fireworks and Fireworks, hoping imported slugger Yoenis Cespedes would light up the Queens sky in his team debut as an explosive prelude to a previously planned post-game fireworks display.

But it was Lucas Duda who continued to launch rockets, blasting two more home runs and a go-ahead double in the eighth inning on Saturday night.

Indeed, the dude abided, and the suddenly happening Mets pulled out a

3-2 win over the Nationals before a rejuvenated crowd of 42,996 -- the second largest for a Mets game in Citi Field history -- to move within one game of first-place Washington in the NL East.
