ATLANTA — Asdrubal Cabrera certainly needed to make a play.
After booting two grounders for errors in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader and then sitting in the nightcap, the veteran shortstop rebounded Sunday, with a defensive highlight.
Cabrera’s diving, backhanded stop of Matt Adams’ grounder in the fifth inning started a 6-4-3 double play, negating the tying run scoring in the Mets’ 2-1 victory over the Braves. Adams was originally ruled safe at first base, but the Mets won a replay challenge.
“Whatever happened in the past [Saturday], I am going to start a new day today and forget about it,” said Cabrera, who has committed 10 errors in 47 games.
