This classic airs on NBC every Christmas Eve and my family always watches it together. It uses the premise of showing George Bailey a world in which he was never born to illustrate one of the most central tenants of the human condition - the fact that each of us touches so many lives in ways we do not even realize and that, given the choice, one should always choose kindness. Mr. Potter is the type of villain that will never go out of style - the embodiment of bitterness and greed.
