Players like Jake Mangum and Mike Vasil landed themselves in the hall of ex-New York Mets prospects the team let slip away. Mangum hit .296 while playing a speedy and productive center field for the Tampa Bay Rays. Vasil pitched to a 2.50 ERA mostly out of the bullpen for the Chicago White Sox as a long man.
Several steps behind Pete Crow-Armstrong in terms of notoriety, Mangum and Vasil would have been incredibly useful for the Mets this past year.
They weren’t alone in putting together good years somewhere else. In a smaller sample, these three former Mets prospects had productive seasons in the big leagues.
