Mets News: Lucas Duda "the biggest offender" in Mets' struggles?

In Mets news today, one New York columnist has singled out first baseman Lucas Duda has one of the biggest reasons for the New York Mets' current tailspin.

After the team salvaged a split of their doubleheader with the Arizona Diamondbacks at Citi Field on Sunday, New York Daily News writer Roger Rubin started out his recap piece on the day's action with this simple line: "Lucas Duda is exactly what the Mets don’t need right now."

Rubin proceeded to elaborate:

Duda’s performance of late lines the Mets up for another big round of criticism. The organization opted for him over Ike Davis to play first base, dealing Davis on April 18 to the Pirates. Davis has been the superior performer since the deal and when Pittsburgh begins a three-game series with the Mets on Monday, that fact will be front-and-center.

Rubin then continued to call Duda "the biggest offender" in the team's hitting struggles during their 2-1 loss in the opener, as the team went 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position.

Duda did not play in the team's 4-2 win in the nightcap, perhaps leading Rubin to believe that less of Duda could be a return to form for the New York Mets.
