Where New York Knicks payroll ranked in 2018-19 compared to now

When the New York Knicks had $70 million to spend in July, they did not have to spend it all. That happened, though, by signing seven players in free agency, with two players selected in the 2019 NBA Draft. Within a few weeks, this cap flexibility disappeared.

This rose New York’s total payroll to $113.49 million for 2019-20, per Spotrac. While seemingly high, it barely crossed the 2019-20 salary cap of $109 million and placed 28th of 30 teams, as of August 6.

The highest salary will be Julius Randle, who makes $18 million.
