True to form, the New York Knicks have gambled with a perceived overpay of a free agent. Shortly before the hiring of Scott Perry as general manager, president Steve Mills handed shooting guard Tim Hardaway Jr. a four-year, $71 million contract.
New York needed to make a slight overpay in order to pry Hardaway Jr. from his restricted free agent status, but critics remain unconvinced that it was worth the risk.
Hardaway Jr. has been generally inconsistent during his NBA career, but he’s coming off of his best season thus far. He averaged a career-high in points, rebounds, assists, steals, and three-point field goals made per game, as well as field goal percentage.
