New York Knicks: Mitchell Robinson’s absence opens glaring weakness

In Wednesday’s loss to the Detroit Pistons, the New York Knicks succumbed to more issues, losing Mitchell Robinson to a concussion. The second-year big man’s brief career had already featured a handful of injuries, and this could sideline him for an indefinite period.

When the Knicks constructed their frontcourt in the offseason, it was maligned for having too many power forwards signed, with Julius Randle, Bobby Portis, Taj Gibson and Marcus Morris all arriving. Each player can handle that position, but there was no defensive anchor to back-up Robinson; not to his shot-blocking extent, but a player big enough to handle himself at the other end of the court.
