When the New York Knicks hired Phil Jackson as team president, fans with knowledge of the franchise’s history flashed back to the golden era. Jackson was a super sub for the Knicks’ 1973 NBA championship team and thus has unique perspective on what it takes to win in New York.
Unfortunately, a fellow ex-Knick is voicing an opinion shared by most in New York: thus far, Jackson has been a failure as team president.
In three seasons under Jackson’s regime, the Knicks are 80-166. New York has also found two foundational pieces in Kristaps Porzingis and Willy Hernangomez during Jackson’s tenure, but the short-term results have paled in comparison to the long-term promise.
