NBA's owners OK Dec. 22 start for 2020-21 season that would be shortened to 72 games

The NBA continued to move toward an agreement with the players on a plan for the upcoming season Thursday, with the Board of Governors on board and the National Basketball Players Association presenting the deal to the players.

The players were expected to green light the deal that the two sides have been working on steadily since the season ended last month with the Lakers winning the championship in the COVID-19 interrupted campaign.

The first obstacle was coming to terms on a new collective bargaining agreement with the league having seen revenues plummet in this just-completed season and expecting to be hard hit again in the upcoming season with fans still limited.
