Knicks trade Willy Hernangomez to Hornets, source confirms

Willy Hernangomez expected something to happen with him before the NBA trade deadline, and it did.

The Knicks are sending the second-year center to Charlotte for 6-foot-9 forward Johnny O’Bryant and the Hornets’ second-round picks in 2020 and 2021, a league source confirmed.

Hernangomez’s representatives recently spoke to Knicks officials about trading him if he wasn’t going to get any playing time. The Knicks granted that wish after Hernangomez appeared in just 26 of the Knicks’ 55 games this season.

The Knicks may not be done dealing. The trade deadline is 3 p.m. Thursday, and it’s possible the Knicks could be changing course now that Kristaps Porzingis’ season is over after he tore his left ACL in Tuesday’s loss to the Bucks.
