When Jimmy Butler asked for a trade from the Minnesota Timberwolves, he listed three teams as preferred destinations: the Brooklyn Nets, Los Angeles Clippers and New York Knicks. All three teams have the necessary cap space to give him a max contract in 2019, thus the interest.
How soon could the Timberwolves move Butler? For now, they will not bring him to Monday’s media day, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
If the Knicks lineup for Butler, though, the mutual interest might not be as strong as indicated. According to Jeff Zillgitt of USA Today, the multi-time All-Star’s desire to go to the Big Apple was “overstated,” as he wants to win “sooner rather than later.
